Time flies, and Collier County is celebrating its 100th birthday this year. In honor of a long history of progress in paradise, the county has planned a bevy of events throughout Naples this month that will celebrate its years of progress, and present prominence.

Not only is February Senior Celebration month, but this year the Senior Expo is commemorating Collier County’s centennial! Come out and learn about the latest in fitness, and how to enhance your life. There will be health screenings, as well as live entertainment and food. This year the expo has added to its lineup the Centennial Great Tennis Shoe Hunt & Selfie’s Photo Booth where you can participate in an entertaining hunt for 100 Centennial miniature tennis shoes hidden for your discovery. If you find one, you can take it to the selfies photo booth to redeem your prize!

The Naples Historic District, an area that measures less than one-tenth of one square mile, is the cradle of the sophisticated and chic Naples that we know and love today. Preserving its historic integrity has been an ongoing effort by the Naples Historical Society. During this event, aptly held during the Collier County Centennial Celebration, the president of the Naples Historical Society will offer a special presentation about their past efforts to foster preservation and rehabilitation in the District, as well as an update on their continued work to maintain the charm and atmosphere of our beautiful city.

Celebrate Collier County’s Centennial in vivid color. The Orchid Society Annual Show will mark the Centennial with its showcase of elegant and exotic orchids. You’ll be able to admire orchid displays by hobbyists, and even purchase your own plant from an array of orchid vendors who will be in attendance. These fragrant and fickle flowers usually bloom once a year, and the blossoms typically last for about six to 10 weeks, but given ideal conditions they’re likely to bloom for you more often.

This year the Naples Airport celebrates its 80th birthday—a baby compared to 100-year-old Collier County. In recognition of this, Naples Airport Authority Communications Manager Zachary Burch plans to speak about the airport’s transformation throughout the years—from its early beginnings as a WWII military base, to becomming a vital transportation link before the expansion of I-75, to its current position as a transportation hub that buttresses the local economy, tourism, construction, and real estate.
