Before moving day arrives, consider this checklist of eight important items to have on-hand to help make for a more efficient move into your new residence.

You’ve carefully packed your possessions into boxes and double and triple-taped them to make sure they’re securely closed. But when you reach your destination, retrieving what’s inside of your boxes will be quite difficult without a box cutter. So, be sure to carry this item along for the ride. As a matter of fact, invest in more than one so that others who may assist with your move are able to unbox items and help expedite the process.

 

Item #2. Furniture Sliders

Furniture sliders are placed beneath the legs of sofas and chairs and enable you to slide your pieces across flooring surfaces so that you don’t have to lift them. Sliders for carpet have a hard surface that allows furniture to surf atop the carpet, while sliders for hardwood and tile have felt surfaces to prevent scratching and scarring.

Be sure to pack items to clean your new home, since it’ll likely need to be freshened up. Include supplies to clean bathrooms, floors, and windows so that the first night in your new place is to your liking.

You’d be hard-pressed to make it through moving day without trash cans and trash bags, since you’ll likely be opening packages and creating lots of trash that needs to go somewhere. If your home was previously owned, don’t assume that the former residents left trash receptacles behind. Come equipped with some of your own.

 

Item #8. Lamps, Bulbs, and Batteries

On moving day don’t forget to bring a few lamps along. Although your home may have sufficient overhead lighting, task lighting will invariably be necessary for spaces that require more illumination than ceiling lights provide. Also, don’t forget to pack light bulbs, as well as batteries for things like TV remotes.
