Researchers at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) calculated that in June 2024 Collier County’s unemployment rate was 3.1 percent.
That figure is substantially lower than the U.S. national average of 4.1 percent in June 2024, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Taxable Sales
State and local municipalities raise revenue through sales tax. Here are snapshots of taxable sales figures for Collier County, and other portions of Southwest Florida:
- Recent research conducted by analysts at FGCU found that seasonally-adjusted real taxable sales in Collier County totaled $1.000 billion in May 2024.
- The seasonally-adjusted real taxable sales in Lee County amounted to $1.625 billion in May 2024—an uptick of less than 1 percent from April 2024.
Tourist Tax Revenues
- In Collier County seasonally-adjusted real tourist tax revenues in May 2024 rose to $3.9 million. That’s 11 percent higher than the total in May 2023.
- Seasonally-adjusted real tourist tax revenues in Lee County rose to $3.3 million in May 2024—16 percent higher than the same time last year.
- For coastal counties seasonally-adjusted real tourist tax revenues were 8.1 million in May 2024. That’s a 14 percent increase since May 2023.
Airport Passenger Activity
- Data collected by researchers at Florida Gulf Coast University indicated that airport passenger traffic at Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) amounted to 960,433 in June 2024. That’s an 8-percent jump from June 2023.
