Economists at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) reported that in Collier County the unemployment rate in June 2025 was 3.9 percent. Unchanged from May 2025 but 0.6 percentage points above June 2024.

State and local municipalities raise revenue through sales tax. Here’s a look at a compilation of taxable sales figures and tourist tax revenues for Collier County, and other portions of Southwest Florida:


  • Collier County’s seasonally-adjusted real taxable sales equated to $1.003 billion in May 2025— 5 percent below May last year.

  • In Lee County seasonally-adjusted real taxable sales summed to $1.545 billion in May 2025. 11 percent down from May 2024.

 

Taxable sales figures above were the most recently published by FGCU at the time of this writing.

 


                                                                        Tourist Tax Revenues


  • In Collier County seasonally-adjusted real tourist tax revenues amounted to $3.9 million in May 2025. That’s up 1 percent from the same month the previous year.

  • Seasonally-adjusted real tourist tax revenues in Lee County measured $3.6 million in May 2025 and 7 increase from May 2024.

  • Coastal counties totaled $8.2 million in seasonally-adjusted real tourist tax revenues in May 2025.

 

 

                   Airport Passenger Activity at Southwest Florida International Airport


  • FGCU analysts determined that seasonally-adjusted airport passenger traffic at Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) rose 1 percent since May 2024 and amounted to 935,108 in May 2025.
