Mercato’s Piazza to Be Transformed Into ‘Lively Experience’

If you already frequent Mercato, and especially if you enjoy it’s Piazza, developers of the popular entertainment destination plan to take your experience to a whole new level.

“We’re looking forward to redefining the Piazza and creating a lively experience for our guests,” said Nick Lombardo, vice president of development at North American Properties, in an interview with GulfShore Business magazine in mid-June. North American Properties manages Mercato and is working on the Piazza enhancement alongside PGIM Real Estate, which owns Mercato.

Lombardo explained that although Mercato currently has areas where patrons can gather to socialize, it lacks a main space for event-hosting and gatherings on a large scale. As it currently is the Piazza comprises 3,000 square feet, and planned improvements, which are scheduled to begin in mid-July, will triple that size.

The Piazza will receive a covered performance stage, and the expansion will include additional benches, seat walls, turf, landscaping, and lighting.

The goal is to create a centralized green space where patrons can congregate for events and other happenings, and afterward take advantage of shopping, dining, and other experiences that surround them.

Another facet of the Mercato facelift involves encouraging businesses to showcase the personalities of their brands through the use of unique storefronts that capture their character. This can further immerse patrons in the vibe of their establishments.

The Mercato upgrade includes details like painting a portion of the surface of Strada Place, the main thoroughfare at Mercato, with the center’s vibrant logo to mark a crosswalk connector between green space and an expanded sidewalk lounge area.

Construction on the new and improved Mercato is projected to be completed by November 2024.
