For non-Americans, the term “gated community” initially seems to sound as if the environment is unsafe or dangerous. A “gated community” often offers a golf course, a community pool, tennis courts, bocce courts or a fitness center, sometimes also a club house with a restaurant and so on. However, this does not mean that as a resident in such communities you have to participate. It’s just an opportunity to meet like-minded people in a foreign city.
