Hack #1. A Fridge Freshener Using a Cotton Ball

For those times when you may not have a new box of baking soda to help keep your fridge smelling fresh, don’t worry. You can create your own refrigerator freshener. Just soak a cotton ball with a fragrant extract, like vanilla or orange, and place the cotton ball on a dish inside of your refrigerator. The scent is sure to dominate even the most determined odors.

Hack #2. A Weed Killer Using Vinegar

You can keep your landscape free of pesky weeds without having to purchase chemical weed killers. Let vinegar do the work. Simply pour distilled white vinegar into a spray bottle and wherever weeds pop up in your yard just spritz them with the vinegar. The acidic properties in vinegar will cause the weeds to burn. To help the vinegar coat and cling to weeds, mix it with a few drops of dish soap. Spray the solution on hot, sunny days. The heat will intensify the effects of the acid.

Hack #3. A Fruits and Vegetables Wash Using Peroxide

Washing your fresh fruits and vegetables before preparing meals is normal. Paying a hefty price for fruit and vegetable washes is not.

You can easily create a wash of your own using hydrogen peroxide. Fill a sink with cool water and pour in 1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide. Clean and rinse your produce as normal. Your peroxide solution will help rid your fruits and veggies of pesticides and bacteria just like a store-bought wash.

Hack #4. A Homemade Upholstery Freshener Using Vodka

If it’s time to freshen-up your upholstery, you don’t necessarily have to call a professional cleaning service. Vodka–yes vodka, can freshen your upholstered surfaces. Pour vodka into a spray bottle and lightly mist your furniture and drapery. Since vodka is a natural disinfectant and deodorizer, it will help get rid of smells.

Hack #5. A Baseboard Cleaner Using Dryer Sheets

Let’s face it: No one really thinks about how clean their baseboards are. That is, until they start to look dingy. These areas of a home easily collect dust and dirt, especially in spaces where there’s heavy foot traffic.

To keep your baseboards clean, wash them with water and dish liquid. After allowing them to dry, rub the surfaces of your boards with a dryer sheet. Doing so will help repel dirt, dust, pet fur, and hair, and keep your baseboards looking clean!

Here’s another dryer sheet trick! After dumping your kitchen trash can, line the bottom of the can with newspaper to absorb leaks. Next, lay a few scented dryer sheets on top of the newspaper to help combat food odors. After you insert a new trash bag, put a couple of dryer sheets inside of the bag, too! Now you won’t have to spend extra money on fragrant trash bags in order to hide food funk!
