Labor Force and Employment


In Collier County the unemployment rate in April 2024 was 3.5 percent, according to calculations by Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). Although this figure is an increase of .1 percent from the previous month, it’s still significantly lower than the U.S. national average of 3.9 percent in April 2024—per data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.




                                                                          Taxable Sales

State and local municipalities raise revenue through sales tax. Here’s a look at snapshots of taxable sales figures for Collier County, and other portions of Southwest Florida:

  • Per measurements by researchers at FGCU, seasonally-adjusted real taxable sales in Collier County totaled $1.018 billion in March 2024. That’s a 1 percent increase from the prior month.

  • In Lee County the seasonally-adjusted real taxable sales amounted to $1.608 billion in March 2024, which is 1 percent below the previous month.

             Tourist Tax Revenues


  • Seasonally-adjusted real tourist tax revenues in Collier County in March 2024 totaled 3.7 million—9 percent higher than March 2023.
  • In Lee County seasonally-adjusted real tourist tax revenues were $3.4 million in March 2024. That’s a 21 percent jump from March 2023.
  • In March 2024 seasonally-adjusted real tourist tax revenues in coastal counties amounted to $7.8 million—a 14 percent increase from the same time last year.

 

                                                            Airport Passenger Activity


  • Figures from FGCU show that airport passenger traffic at Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) equaled 878,603 in April 2024. That’s a 16 percent increase from April 2023.
