3 Water-Conserving Plants for Your Landscape Before You Sell

Not only is Russian Sage drought-tolerant, but it can stand up to heat, too, which makes it ideal for coping with hot South Florida summers. This perennial produces thin, fragrant stems which yield small purple blooms that can add a pop of color to your landscape and enhance your home’s curb appeal to attract house hunters.

Another benefit of this water-conserving plant is that animals like rabbits, deer, and other critters, don’t like it. So, you won’t have to worry about it being gobbled up after you plant it. An added benefit, depending on how you see it, is that Russian Sage sows its own seeds, which means it can quickly spread without additional planting. Keep an eye on it, so that it doesn’t take over your spaces!

Water-Conserving Plant #3. Amsonia

Just to be clear, it’s amm-soh-nee-uh. We wouldn’t want you to misread it as the similar-sounding word for sleeplessness! Amsonia is a lovely drought-tolerant perennial that yields bunches of small powder-blue flowers, which emerge in late spring. This beautiful plant grows to about 2 feet tall, so it can work well as a backdrop for lower-growing plants and groundcover.
