Here’s The Perfect Formula to Add Color to Your Interiors Before You Sell Your Home

When you’re planning to sell your home in Naples, or in another part of the Southwest Florida region, you want to make sure that your interiors appeal to as many potential buyers as possible. This usually means incorporating color schemes that are neutral, which may include pigments like grays, beiges, a combination of the two–known as greige, and perhaps other neutrals like celadon green. While there’s nothing wrong with these colors, sometimes the way you use them can create a vibe that comes across as cold, sterile, or just plain boring.

You may be concerned that you’ll go overboard with neutrals or that you might use too much color in an effort to spice-up your spaces. One extreme can mean a plain color scheme, while the other color conundrum may result in pigments that overpower and divide your spaces–and make your interiors appear less cohesive.

You don’t have to wonder about the best way to use color in your spaces–there’s a science to it. Check out this color formula used by designers so that you can use the right color proportions to warm-up your interiors while still maintaining a neutral and cohesive appearance throughout your home!

The 60-30-10 Color Formula

This formula is a color ratio that can help demystify how to use color in your home, and revolutionize the vibe of your interiors:

Color Ratio #1: 60 Percent of Your Space Should Be a Single Color

Sixty percent of a room, which is obviously a majority of the space, should have one main color–a base color, according to designers. This could be a neutral like beige or gray. This pigment should make up most of the color in the room, for instance on walls, in area rugs, and in other significant accessories. When incorporating this main color, vary the hue in light or dark shades.

Color Ratio #2: 30 Percent of Your Space Should Have a Complementary Color

A complementary color should be incorporated to supplement and enhance your base color. Still, it can have a certain degree of contrast in order to maintain interest in your spaces. Consider using your complementary color on an accent wall, in furniture, or in drapery.

Color Ratio #3: 10 Percent of Your Space Should Have an Accent Color

In this portion of the color formula consider incorporating an accent color into your design scheme. This can be a bright or lush pop of color for added interest and dramatic contrast. You can add this burst of pigment through the use of throws, accent pillows, artwork, and other decorative items. This can be a trendy color that you swap out with a new hue as trends change.
